How to Solve a Pyramorphix Puzzle
At first glance, the Pyramorphix looks intimidating. It’s a pyramid-shaped puzzle that shapeshifts into all kinds of chaotic scrambles. But here’s the secret: the Pyramorphix is just a 2×2 cube in disguise.
That means if you already know how to solve a 2×2 Rubik’s Cube, you can solve the Pyramorphix too! You can solve it like a normal 2×2, but we’re going to walkthrough a bit of a different solve process. Let’s break it down step by step.

Step 1: Understand the Puzzle
The Pyramorphix has:
-
4 corner pieces (the actual “pyramid tips”)
-
4 face pieces (they act like cube corners in disguise)
Because it’s a shape mod, the puzzle can look crazy when scrambled. But once you recognize how the pieces line up, the solve feels familiar.
Step 2: Return the Puzzle to a Pyramid Shape
This is fairly intuitive, meaning there is no set algorithm to perform to do this step. Rotate the layers until you have the puzzle back into a pyramid shape. The video tutorial has some nice tips on how to do this step as well.
Step 3: Place All the Corners in the Correct Spot
Start by picking any corner piece as your point of reference. That corner piece will show you what color each side will be.
Now that you selected a corner, we need to make sure the other 3 corners are in the right spot as well. The other 3 corners don’t need to be rotated correctly yet, just make sure they are in the right spot. Again, there is no algorithm for this, and you should be able to rotate the layers to accomplish this step.
Step 4: Solve the Center Pieces
It’s possible that all the center pieces are already in their correct spot at this stage. If they aren’t, then this step is next on our list!
For our example, let’s say the yellow center is not in the right spot. Rotate the whole puzzle so the yellow center is at the back of the puzzle and the yellow side is on the bottom.
Now that your puzzle is in this position, perform this algorithm: B2, R2, L2, R2. You should now have at least the yellow center in the correct spot on the yellow side.
From here, you will either have all the centers solved, just the yellow center solved, or a total of 2 centers solved. If you need to solve more of the center pieces, hold the puzzle so that your left hand is holding the corner that is between the 2 corner pieces that need to swap places, then perform this algorithm: L, R L, R’, B’, R’, B.
You should now have all the centers in the right place and we can move on to the next step!
Step 5: Orient (twist) the corners
At this stage, you will likely have a corner or 2 that is in the right spot, but needs to rotate in order to be solved. To do so, we will need one last algorithm.
The algorithm we’ll use will twist the selected corner clockwise. So, you may need to perform this algorithm twice in order to twist the corner enough to be solved.
Hold the puzzle so that the corner that needs twisted is at the top of the puzzle and your left hand is holding the left corner, then perform this algorithm until the corner is solved: R, L’, R’, L.
If other corners need solving, rotate the whole puzzle so the next corner that needs rotated is at the top of the puzzle and perform the algorithm again until the corner is solved.
Step 6: Celebrate Your Solve 🎉
You’ve just solved the Pyramorphix! What looked like a shapeshifting nightmare turned out to be nothing more than a clever disguise for a 2×2 cube.
Final Tips
-
If you already know the 2×2 cube method, solving the Pyramorphix will feel familiar — just a bit more confusing visually.
-
Try to “see through the shape” and focus on matching colors, not shapes.
-
Once you master it, show it off to friends — it looks harder than it really is!
We’ll see you back in a month for your next challenge!
