It’s perfect for beginners looking to stretch their skills beyond the basics, and best of all, solving it is as satisfying as giving it a good spin. Let’s break it down together!

Getting to Know the Fidget Spinner Cube

At first glance, it may seem confusing—does the spinner do anything? (Not really—they’re just for fun!) Your goal is to scramble and match the colors on each face. It’s a great intro to piece-cycling strategies that will show up in more advanced puzzles later. It’s also one of the coolest fidget toys you can bring to work or school!

Note: Would you rather learn by video? We love this one by Mr. Puzzle!

Step 1: Understand the Piece Types

Before you scramble, let’s take a quick look at what you’re working with:

  • Centers: These don’t move and define the solved color for each face.

  • Edge Pieces: These are connected to the center and make a ‘+’ pattern.

  • Corners: The pointed 4 pieces.

Now, scramble the cube and let’s begin!

Step 2: Fix the shape and solve one Face

  1. Fix the shape
If you’ve shape-shifted the puzzle, make 90 and 180 degree turns until the puzzle has been returned to its original flat shape.
  2. Choose a face
Pick a face to start with—white or yellow is usually easiest.

  3. Find Matching edges
Identify all the edges of that color scattered around the puzzle.

  4. Solve the edges
Rotate the 4 edges to match the white and yellow centers. This part is mostly intuitive. You can also move 2 parallel edges 90 degrees and then move the isolated edge piece on its own without messing up any other pieces.

Step 3: Solve the corners

There isn’t really an algorithm to learn for this part. Make turns to move the corners around, always returning the edge pieces pack to their correct orientation at the end of each move set.

To see a solve in action, we highly recommend checking out Mr. Puzzle’s walkthrough video linked above.

Congratulations, You Solved the Fidget Spinner Cube!

You’ve just unlocked another achievement in your puzzle-solving journey!

Now that you’re comfortable with this one, try to solve it faster—Or just keep it on your desk and spin it every time you need a quick break.

See you next month for another brain-bending adventure. Until then – keep spinning, keep solving, and stay curious!
